American Well Service Inc. HSE Oversight

  • BOP, Man Down, and Derrick Rescue Training Drills
Being prepared for any and all emergencies is vital for the safety of everyone on location, drills are conducted on a routine basis to confirm crews are capable of completing the task in a safe timely manner.

  • Flash Alert Media System with HSE Safety Bulletins
Safety bulletins are sent immediately after any incident to help explain the event and the corrective actions required to eliminate a repeat anywhere in the company.

  • Rig Smart Crown & Floor Savers
AWS uses Rig Smart for its crown/floor savers, this system is superior to the competition and can be relied on to stop the blocks in the event of operator error, or equipment failure.

  • Live Document Management Systems
Our document management system tracks all inspections. When an expiry or failure notification is sent to the HSE team, the piece of equipment is replaced immediately.

  • Observation Trending
This part of the behavior-based safety program shows trends that are a leading indicator to injury or incident. When such trends are noted, a stand down is held with that rig crew to correct the poor behavior or condition.

  • Rig Of the Quarter Safety Insensitive
All rigs are evaluated using a carefully developed grading system based on performance, paperwork, safety. All crew members of the high scoring rig are awarded personalized PPE.

  • Annual Safety Training
Annual training is an essential part of the safety program. It keeps all employees up to date on required training as well as any changes or updates to company policies. It is also an opportunity to retrain employees on critical safety topics like fall protection, emergency response, fire protection, etc.

  • Monthly Safety Meeting

AWS utilizes Satellite communication and Microsoft Teams to conduct monthly safety meetings with all crews. Employees are pre-assigned topics to present to piers; this keeps crews engaged and confirms all employees have an accurate understanding of procedures and regulations.

  • Real Time Gas Detection Monitoring
Employees are assigned 4 head gas monitors. In the event of a toxic gas release, the monitor will send an alarm to the grid system notifying the safety team of the gas detection. This initiates immediate contact with the rig supervisor to ensure the well-being of the crew and that protocol for a gas release is being followed.

  • SSE Mentorship Program
Any new employee that is also new to the oil and gas industry is placed on the SSE program for 3-6 months. The new employee is also assigned a mentor to teach them the correct way of doing the job safely. SSE’s are identified by a green hard hat until they pass the SSE evaluation.

  • BiAnnual Safety Audits
All rigs are audited every 6 months to ensure equipment and employees are compliant with all safety standards. Any discrepancies are documented and corrected in an appropriate time frame.

  • Dropped Object Prevention Program
All rigs have had a drops inspection completed to ensure all overhead equipment has reliable securement. These inspections are documented and kept with the rig and on file with the safety department. Follow-up Drops inspections are also completed annually during category 3 inspections.  Rigs are equipped with DROPS tool kits for use when completing overhead work. Tools are documented or logged as having been taken overhead, then checked off the log when they have been returned to ground level after use.
